gator, aside from your message all in CAPS, thank you for all of that information. I'm in the same boat as you as mentioned(I'm the original poster). I bought the Outlander for the exact same reasons you did and have been happy with it up until now. The dealers in my city are useless for any issue like this. The have still no resolved my "horror house" drivers side mirror. I had it in three times for a flawed mirror and had to explain the situation and argue with them. They finally agreed to replace it, but when I picked the vehicle up it looked exactly the same and I have no way of proving or disproving they actually changed the glass. I think this vehicle is strongly built and I'm hoping for many years of flawless operation with regular maintenance. I'm a DIY mechanic(can't compare to your 25 years of service) but I do keep my vehicles up more than most and it makes it very frustrating to have a problem I cannot fix on my own(which I shouldn' have to considering its a new vehicle).

On the plus side, were not alone. You mentioned domestics not having this issue. I drive a few Chevrolet Uplanders(2007 and 2008's) from time to time and they have the exact same issue. A friend owns a 2006 Nissan Xtrerra and has the same issue. Considering our vehicle is Japanese made and built, and their climate in certain areas can be as cold as ours, I fail to see why they have not rectified this issue properly yet. Our generation of Outlander has been out for awhile now. It must be a money thing. If it boils down to a water pump recall, we'll be waiting quite some time before we see this happen.

Spoke with the dealer today. It's been acknowledged and apparently all required information has been passed onto the engineers. Let's hope with enough continued complaints we will see a resolution. The dealer informed me that Mitsubishi is also working with Transport Canada on this.
