Default Installing aftermarket nav

Hi all,

I've been thinking of buying a 08 Outlander, but I'm wondering about installing an aftermarket nav. Specifically, I was looking at the Kenwood DNX8120 which has great features and costs a whole lot less than the $4000 factory nav package (Canada). Anyways, I did a couple of quick searches on this forum and I couldn't find anything about installing an aftermarket nav.

Is it possible to install this on the Outlander? (I'm sure it is, but how?!?)
Usually all you need a dash kit and to be able to do some simple wiring, which I have no problem with, but is there a guide anywhere on how to do this? I'd appreciate any help with this as it could help me make a decision on purchasing the vehicle.

Thanks![/align]

Awesome, that's super helpful thanks! How come there aren't very many people that's done this to the Outlander? Is custom audio not a very big deal with the Outie community or something?

I was told the reverse-cam didn't come with the Outlander nav package? It includes a rear seat DVD system which I'd never use tho....I'd much prefer a reverse-cam! It's on my list of mods to do regardless of which car I buy...

What does the stock Mitsubishi navi do in regards to 'changing things' in the car? I've seen people post things saying you can change car settings, but I can't figure out what it changes exactly. What can it do that an aftermarket navi couldn't?

Thanks!!

Just wanted to bump up my question again - What does the stock Mitsubishi nav. do that an aftermarket nav unit wouldn't have?

Also, are there any more detailed information with regards to wiring an aftermarket navigation unit?

Thanks!!

-Well the nav is hard drive drivin. So no fumbling through dvd maps. Its all loaded onto the hard drive.
-You can store music on the hard drive if you want.
-There are features that tie into the car: (wiper speed, door lock options, dome light options, flash/honk when using keyless fob... the list goes on. These are things that you can customize without having to go to the dealer to change. My favorite/first change was unlock all dooors with FAST key touch)
-Service history is saved and can be viewed
-Altimeter and temperature history is saved and viewable
-Touch screen (not all aftermarket are touch)

People will probably add on to the list, these were just things off the top of my head. It was an easy sell for me, at around a $2000 option for me in the US.

EDIT:
P.S. If available go to the dealer and mess around with the nav and all the features. See if you like whats all in it. That would be the best way to find out if it is essential for YOU or not...
