My Outlander SE is like a sauna during the day in the hot South Jersey sun and I don't think the black sport fabric seats help!

Was thinking about getting a sun shield for the windscreen from Amazon or seatcoverstore.com - does anyone have any tips or recommendations they could offer before I spend my hard-earned cash?

I'd also thought about covering the seats with a lighter color to reduce the temp and although I don't plan heavy-duty wear on the seats, keeping the original covers in good condition will benefit resale value, so there'd be another good reason to do it.

Carid.com seems to offer a wide range of different cover materials, has anyone dealt with them or used another supplier?

I live in Phoenix so I know what heat can do to the interior of a car. After 15 minutes interior temps can reach 160 in the Arizona sun. My 08 ES, which also has the black fabric seats, has the privacy glass in the back windows and the front windows are tinted and that helps a lot. If your windows are not tinted I suggest you get it done.

Also we have about a 6 inch strip at the top of the windshield tinted. Arizona allows tinting the top of the windshield, but other states may not and we use one of the folded sun screens you can buy at auto parts stores for the windshield when the car is parked out in the sun.

The Outlander has in my opinion a very good A/C. One suggestion I have is to use the recirculation on your A/C especially when it's humid. That helps because you're recirculating the interior air rather than pulling in the humid outside air.

 

havin an in-channel window vent visor (avs or weather tech) could help disipate the heat as well.. by letting you open the window a bit while parked.

The front tint does help a lot and shouldn't cost that much. A local shop charged me $70 for the 3M film that matches the rear factory tint and has the UV rejection.

 

I'm also from Arizona and not sure what the NJ tint laws are there. Having the tint has been a lifesaver for me. The dealership had installed 35% on the front two windows and they thought the privacy glass would have been enough. I stripped the garbage tint from the front two windows and had my tint guy cover all the glass in 5% along with a windshield strip, then the did 50% tint all the rest of the way down the windshield to reduce glare. Sure, it's not exactly legal, but it helps temendously out here. When the car is parked, I throw the sunshade up and crack the windows if weather allows. It's warm after sitting in the sun for a while, but not as hot as it was with hardly any tint on it. For seat covers I'm cheap. The towell over the seat trick is working so far, and it's a light color. Sounds ghetto, but it works.

 

NJ laws won't allow me to tint the front windows but looks like this might help!

i do to have tints and also the weathertech inline window vent visor, they work awesome in keeping my car cool.
