Hey peter. The issue was the little black door buttons. One button was permanently pressed and that caused the constant error and key image onthe dash. Fix was to disconnect the plugs in the handles and use the remote to lock/unlock.

Hey really appreciate the reply! Looks like my drivers door one is stuck. Phew at least it's something simple.

At Mitsubishi they programmed the car so that it auto detects the key moving away from the car and locks it. There are lots of options in the computer so worth an hours labour to sit down with the laptop and walk through them.

They even activated a built in car alarm so the horn honks if the car is broken in to!
