Default Looking to Buy Outlander

Hey everyone,

I am currentley in the market for a new vehicle and have a toss up between the Outlander and the Edge right now. I was hoping I could get some real life answers from you guys rather that what the typical review sites mention.

I am lookin at 2009-2011 Outlander LS models with the V6 primarily.

1.) How is the general quality of the vehicle? I know they come with a 10 year , 160,000 KM power train warranty which is a pretty big statement in my mind.

2.) Are there any typical issues that people are experiencing? I know looking at mazda CX-7s a lot of people were complaining about turbo and transmission problems. I like to know ahead of time of the common problems with them. I have a small Mazda protege 5 right now that is pretty much miled out and the only common problem I have had with it is they all seem to be rust buckets.

3.) Do these have any rust issues?

4.) How is general maintenance on them? can one do most work themselves, like typical oil changes, air filter changes etc, easy to perform?

5.) Are parts a lot more expensive then your domestics? Can I get them from a Canadian Tire or Part source, or do you have to go to the dealer typically?

6.) With regards to the warranty, do you have to follow the service schedule to keep it intact? Like if they say to do transmission fluid changes every 50,000 KM or something.

7.) What real world gas mileage are you guys getting, how many KM to a tank as well?

8.) Is the V6 an Interference or Non-Interference motor?

9.) What is the gas octane requirement, can you use regular?

Thats all I can think of right now, but anyhelp input would be welcomed.

The v6 is interference
Fuel, up to 2009 it's regular, 2010 and up it's Premium preferred but regular is accepted (economy suffer a bit)

Canadian Tire carry all the filters Oil, Air, Cabin and Oil

For warranty you should follow the schedule but you don't need to go to a dealer just keep detailed record and invoice. (good practice for resale anyway)

In town I get 10l/100 at least when the engine is warmed (worst while warming up)
On the Highway I get 7.9l/100 mostly following speed limit within 0 to +20%

Original tires are only so-so, consider new one asap and stick to car tire rather than LT or heavy SUV there is a significant impact on the mileage.

Thanks Claude. Interference scares me a bit, but I guess if I do the timing belt when they say I shouldn't worry about it.

Do you run Prem or Regular and what year are you?

The timing belt is super strong and good for 100K MILES or 160K Km per their book. Just stick to the book.

I got a 2010 and I run Premium
Simply because in Canada, Regular has 10% alcohol, Mid grade has 5% and premium has none.

Plus I tried both and Premium make for a peppier engine and on the long run with the difference in MPG the cost is the same. (remember alcohol has less BTU so lower MPG).

If you get a 2009 or older then the fuel is your choice.

Note: 2007 -2009 = 220HP
2010 on = 230 HP with a higher compression ratio thus Premium gas
