Miles to Empty ?

Than don't blame the Outlander.

.I still blame the Outtie for having a goofy fuel tracking program tho. I can live with it now that i understand the quirks. I don't mind the 10 mile increments so much, but don't stop at 30 then blank out---. I would think it should be able to go lower if your driving style doesn't change during that time.
And why would it say 30 miles left then go blank if i still had over 2 gallons in the tank (and averaging 23mpg on that drive)?
I think that it's CYA on MMCs part. I can picture someone looking at the reading that says 20 Miles left , and figure "I know where ther isa gas station 15 miles away" so they flip to another view and keep driving, but than they get stuck in traffic for 25 minutes and run out of gas because they sudently went from doing 26MPG to say 12MPG. I think it's just there way of saying fill up ASAP.
That's a good point Marc. I didn't think of that especially while i was too busy staring at my gauge cluster. If i'd of hit a traffic jam i'd have been freaking out.
It would cool if the gauge actually said how many gallons was left in the tank. But at least now i know that there's 2 gals left when i hit 30 miles left on the gauge.

You have lets say 40 miles till empty with the 2 gallons left. They dont want you to fill up with 1/2 a gallon of gas left. Reason they warn you into filling up with 2 gallons left. Also you run the risk of running out of gas if the light came on and you only had 5 miles of driving distance left in the tank.
Antlip,
As you said most cars alert you with at least 2 gals left in the tank. I've never run out of gas before...and knock on wood i hope not to. Itwould just be cool tosee the gauge continue tocount down to zero. Plus you could then really see how your driving style affected gas mileage in the short term. Thanx all.
