My 2003 outlander XLS smells like gas/oil inside- if I leave something like cloaths in it overnight you can smell it on it- my wife is constantly telling me I "smell like oil" - I can kinda smell it- she says it is comeing from the air out of the AC

Is there a cabin air filter in the 03 outlander? I attempted to find one and couldent...usualy there is one somewhere- my owners mannual didnt mention anything

any ideas?

 

This sounds wierd - the 03 Model Outtie in Oz (Australia) does in fact have a pollen filter fitted as part of the factory air, but where this is located I am not sure. I can drive thru thick smoke without even smelling it, so it works well.

I would be taking the Outtie back to a dealer to get this smell of petrol checked out. I have noticed that if i over-fil the tank (a bit of splash back) I DO get a smell of fumes for a while afterward. I think that this is more to do with the fuel being spilt on the side of the car more than anything else.
