Default Noise when ASC kicks in

Hey all,

So we finally got some snow and I decided to go out and play with the Outie in it.

Whenever I get the ASC to kick in (with the yellow car skid marks in the dash if i start to skid), there is noise from whatever wheel is being affected by the ASC (sounds like the ABS without the pulse and about that volume too).

I guess my question is - Are you supposed to hear something?? I mentioned this a while back to someone and they said they have never heard their system when active.

PLease tell me this is normal and you are supposed to hear something.

Thanks!

Absolutely normal, its a combination of abs being applied, power being reduced, and the s-awc.

It did it to me three times on the way home from work tonight

I guess I should have clarified I have a 2009 LS (4WD) - it doesn't have the S-AWC....but hopefully it still is normal.

Thanks man!

Just noticed you are in Red Deer - I'm south down in the Hat....winter hit us like a bomb this week!

The clunk type of noise is normal, user manual also states that, like previous poster said, its a combination of ABS/AWD/engine reducing power. Actually last year when I went to Pennsylvania during winter the system worked beautifully (2009 Outlander ES 4WD) especially on icy turns, nice piece of technology, amazing how quickly and effortlessly ASC is able to correct the car from unintended slide.

Haha indeed it did. We didnt get as much snow as you did, but it was still ugly. I do enjoy driving the Outlander in the snow though. Its a beast with winter tires. You have to turn off the traction control to have any fun with it though.
