I have a month-old 2007 Outie LS and I have been surprised by the loud "scatchy" noise produced by my breaks in ABS situations (sliding on snow and ice). I have had ABS with other cars in the past and had no souch noise. Has anyone had a similar experience? Does this sound like a problem to you?

i also had a similar experience. was running about 65 mph on 2WD and suddenly car in front of me stopped. i kicked the break hard and a there was loud noise. you can feel on your foot the release and break that ABS/ASC was doing. it was ugly and you would think your tire exploded, went off or something. you will panic if you're in the situation. unfortunately, i haven't talked to mitsubishi yet. i don't know if that's how mitsubishi designed it or ASC only works on 4wd auto. worst experience with my outie, but still i'm lovin it. beware guys, you can test it if you want to feel the ugly experience.

Every car that I have been in that had ABS, made that "grinding" sound when they were in action. So when the outtie does it, it seems normal to me...

I dont know enough about ABS on what causes that sound though.

 

Yea every car I drove with ABS, when it kicked in there was a loud noise. I would be worried for the cars that didnt make any noise when ABS kicked in. I used the ABS on the ice in my outlander and it screamed loud and stopped me on a dime.

 

Thanks for the helpful responses. The consensus of responses, and what I have seen on the web, is that noisy is indeed the rule. With respect to antlip's response, this does make me worry about the efficacy of my previous vehicle's ABS.

lol i have a 06 and my abs does the same thing. out of all the mitsubishis i had only the endeavor and outlander have done this. it is loud and every time im hoping no ones around to hear it, its sounds like hell haha but the car does stop thats what matters
