Default Outlander Elegance 2.0D 59 Plate - Alarm Button?

Hi all
I have owned a UK 59 plate Outlander elegance for approx 2 months now and have only just noticed a small black button and red light down next to the ashtray holder.

Does anyone have any idea what this is for? I am guessing something to do with the Alarm
Thanks
N

Can you post a picture of it?

Dumb question, but are you sure it's not the 12v plug cover?

It is for the alarm. It has a flashing LED which indicates which detector was activated if the alarm goes off. The little button is to disable the internal sensors when setting the alarm.

Your right its from the alarm, but from my understanding it's part of the factory fit system made by Cobra. I have the same thing on my other car and the light indicates which sensor was tripped and the button is the override.
You should have a piece of paper explaining the codes with your handbook. Also there should be a four digit code that you enter via the button if the battery in your key dies and you have to open the door the "old fashioned" way. You enter digits by key presses, ie: "1234" would be one press, wait for a long flash, two presses, wait for a long flash, and so on.
You should also be able to change some of the functions, ie: turning the interior sensor off, or changing the volume, but I'm not sure how it interacts with the ETACS unit.
I have the full instructions for the Cobra system I fitted and it is quite versatile with functions like anti-hijack which locks all the doors 5 sec after the engine starts, and sounding the horn with the alarm etc.
It's a shame there is not much detail on the system they fitted to my Outie.

Default uk09 outie- Alarm keeps going off

Hi just reading this interesting thread. I have had my outie for nearly 1 yr now and only recently the alarm has started going off. Its like it has become highly sensitive even more so at night. I notice that alarm button in the middle of dash but cant figure out how to disable the sensors inside? Where would i find the instructions/ change the settings.

Any help on this will be great.

THANKS
