Default Outlander Engine Runaway

Morning all,
I'm looking for some advice. Last week driving home doing bout 50mph engine management came on, white smoke from the exhaust pulled over and the light went out. started to pull off again and a huge amount of thick white smoke from exhaust again. Pulled over went to switch the engine off 'push button stop/start' engine would not switch off - Deisel Automatic so unable to stall.
This resulted in engine run out/runaway, the engine ran at full rpm for about 10 mins then just died, call RAC they came and diagnosed ' suspect engine ran out, oil leaked from exhaust pipe, possible engine damage.
The turbo had blown causing the engine to burn off all the oil inside and causing damage to the engine.
This has resulted in needing a full engine replacement, turbo, exhaust system and 20hrs about totalling £5,600

My Outlander DDi GX5 2.2ltr D Turbo 2012 108k

Sadly this is not covered by insurance due to 'Mechanical Fault'

Any advice would be great, Mitsubishi are as helpful as you'd think... looking at scrapping or selling as spares/repairs.

Have they quoted you on a used engine?

White smoke is coolant. Anything about why coolant was getting burned?
