Depending on market (North America, EU, JDM etc) the Outlander's speedo is set a bit differently.

Does the EU/JDM setting make it show real numbers?

Default Same with me!

Took delivery of our new Outlander two weeks ago. Noticed the same thing on a recent road trip. Will be going back to my dealer with this to see what their reaction/comments will be! Otherwise, we love our new GT.

Default Speedo error and Odometer

[QUOTE=MadMike1953
A bigger concern would be if the odometer is correct? Warranty, service, fuel performance, etc. is all based on the odometer.[/QUOTE]

I have the same concern. My error is closer to 10 kph at 100km/h (2014 AWC, 2.4L). It's not much different at lower speeds so the error is at least 10% on average. So, theoretically if the odometer reflects what's shown on the speedo my 44,000kms are really about 40,000. Having to service the vehicle every 6,000kms is bad enough but in reality I might be doing this at every 5,400 or so. The speedo issue and frequency/cost of service are my only two complaints with what is an excellent vehicle. My 2014 Mazda has service intervals of 8,000kms and its speedo seems to be spot on.

I haven't checked myself but someone on the first page said the CAN bus reports the correct speed so I imagine the odometer would use that and the spedo is just setup to adjust the speed a bit... I have heard this is pretty common practice too.

Check out this link it explains everything: Why are speedos inaccurate?

Thanks Guyfromhe. A little less concerned now after reading your link. When I need new tires I might look into 17" wheels or higher profile 16" tires.

There are Speedo accuracy calculators online you can enter the stock size and your new size and it will tell you how far off your Speedo will be.. Going from factory 18s to factory 16 was like .8 kmph per 100kmph or something..

Changing the wheel size would affect the odometer as well as the speedometer, I think etacs let's you enter your new wheel size if you are super concerned but I wouldn't worry too much about a small difference like that...I never have.
