Default Overhead door open lights quit working?

For the past 2 years I've been fighting with the overhead lights not coming on when opening the doors. I've taken the assembly out (just grab and pull...it just comes out) and messed with the switch...only for it to stop working a month later.

The issue is the plastic slide switch is supposed to hold a bb for two positions. A metal prong that is plastic riveted into place becomes weak and loses the ability to apply pressure to make electrical contact.

Easy fix. Hold the light assembly oriented as if it were installed in the car. Looking down with bulbs visible, you need to jumper two traces/busses just left and forward of the right bulb. One trace is fully exposed and the other has flexibility to get a wire under it. I used some brass foil to make the connection. Now the lights will always come on regardless of switch position.

I did something similar after putting that stupid bb back in place a dozen times. I got a little rocker switch and cut both sides of the old switch setup, then soldered on two little wire jumpers, those got soldered to the new switch after I ground out a hole big enough to thread the nut on the back of the new switch but small enough not to affect the other components in the panel. Works great, but not sure I would recommend trying for everyone. If anyone want's pics, I will pull it out and post one
