I’m attempting to install a Homelink transmitter in our ‘16 Outlander SEL & I wanted to tap into the overhead map/reading lights near the windshield. Does anyone know what wires are the 12v & ground? I pulled the light assembly and there are 4 different harnesses plugged into the back of the assembly all with different colored wires.
I also noticed an unused harness up in the headliner near the sunroof opening that has a pink & purple wire running into it? I tried splicing into the plug that powers the lights that has 3 wires running into it - solid black, black w/white stripe & red w/white stripe but was unable to get the Homelink to power on?
I’ve installed Homelink in our other 2 vehicles (‘12 Corvette & ‘16 Wrangler) both were straight forward with regard to which wires to tap into, but I’m having trouble with the Outlander.
Was able to get it wired up by running wires from the Homelink transmitter under the headliner, down the driver’s a-pillar and tapped the power wire into a harness in the fuse box & the attached the ground wire to a bolt underneath the dead pedal area. Programmed to my Genie garage door openers & my Mighty Mule automatic driveway gate
Just need to paint the shell of the Homelink transmitter to blend more with the color of the headliner if it starts to bother me.
If anyone is curious, I purchased a Homelink transmitter out of a Mercedes SLK for $14. I installed the same transmitter in our ‘16 Jeep Wrangler JKU as well. Both work flawlessly.
