Default Oxygen sesnor issue

I have a 2003 Outlander XLS. I just replaced the front pipe because it separated at the mesh.

Anyway I was careful to not touch the Oxygen sensor just before the catalytic convertor. I put it all together and went for a drive. The check engine line triggered and my scanner is showing "No electrical current received from oxygen sensor bank 1."

Would a new pipe cause this to happen? Is there anyway to check the sensor or do I just have to shoot from the hip and replace it?

Thanks,

Chuck
