Paint Problems
My Outlander PHEV is one year old and with 16,000 miles. I've noticed that the paintwork is beginning to flake, not only at the front of the car - not chipped just flaking - but also on the roof and sides. It's going to look very sorry for itself in the future and will likly be difficult to sell.
Mitsubishi say they wont entertain complaints about paint chips or flaking. It seems, from various forums, that Mitsubishi appear to be renowned for poor and thin paintwork.
Anyone had a problem satisfactorily resolved?

Immediately they said it's 'chips and flakes' which are always rejected. After an argument they agreed to raise as a complaint with the company. However, i think they are only going through the motions and don't expect much action. Anyway we'll see and then consider next moves.
My son’s Mitsubishi Triton had a little paint flaking off, but in some recent heavy rains, huge patches lifted, peeled and started rusting. He had bought the Ute second hand and it was no longer under warranty. He took it to the local dealership and they gave him a list of recommended panel beaters, so he started to gather quotes ranging from 8K to 18K. Someone suggested to him that because heavy rain had exacerbated the problem, it may be covered by insurance. Unfortunately his claim was unsuccessful as the problem was deemed a factory fault and the assessor said there are currently about 20 cars with the same problem. This decision took quite some time and in the meantime the rust was getting worse. So he accepted the cheapest quote and organised the repairs.
Feeling that this seemed unfair, I took extensive photos prior to the repairs starting and made enquires to Mitsubishi Motors. We were directed back to the local dealership who quoted $185 just to look at the car, on the proviso that no repairs had been done, despite the photographs. Insurance and Smash Repairer reports could also have been arranged. Unfortunately, as work had already commenced my son, who has had to borrow the $8,000 has been left with no recourse.
I read elsewhere that Mitsubishi won’t enter into discussions regarding flaking paint, even though there are many Tritons getting around locally with the same “look”. Anybody else experience something similar?

This seems to be common on a lot of Mitsubishis. Please refer to my post for further information: https://mitsubishiforum.com/forum/ot...dshield-57362/
I have a 2023 black triton, with 40,000klms on it and it is covered in stone chips. Where the paint is missing, it is literally paper thin. In comparison I have do the same section of road in a Kia Sorrento and have no paint chips. I still hear stones being flicked up from the road when trucks pass in the other direction, but clearly the paint is much thicker or better quality.
I have mentioned it at the dealership, but as I suspected before asking they are not interested.
I am about to seek legal advice, as I believe there must be some sort of ruling or consumer protection to cover this.
