Default Passenger airbag warning light

Ok this is probably a stupid question, but it's something I've never really noticed before. When I start my 2008 Outlander, without a passenger in the vehicle, the airbag light will come on and I thought it would go off after a few minutes (obviously when a person is sitting in the passenger seat, it does go off). The light has been staying on for the duration of my drive. Is this normal and something I've just never noticed, or is something wrong with the sensor?

Its normal for it to stay on.

The passenger seat has a weight sensor in it. If it is less than 66 lbs. being applied to the seat, then that airbag will not deploy in a crash.
