Poor fuel consumption.
Hi I have recently brought a 2010 2.2 di-d outlander diamond with 75000 miles on the clock. Having read reviews and tech specs I was expecting to get about 40 mpg on a steady cruise and if really careful 43mpg. I am struggling to get anything above 34-35 mpg and that is driving really carefully and even at 55mph it doesn't get any better. I drive it in 2wd mode and I've had a diagnostics done and no faults are apparent. I was hoping someone might have experience of this or is this normal.
not to sound challenging, but where did you read that you get 40+ out of it?
Here in the US, we didn't get the diesel, but some global cars seem to be on Fuelly.com

A wild guess, but looks like average is 30-32MPG.

never believe the manufacturer's numbers. They never state the conditions they complete the test with. My wife's car will get 36MPG....if I putter around at 55MPH and never stop...but then I'd never get anywhere...We'll get 32MPG @ 70MPG...close enough.

Before ours was chipped it would get about 41 to 42mpg on a bit of a run. Mostly motorway speeds 70-75mph. But after fitting the Chip Express tuning box it will do 45mpg+ and I have seen 49mpg once but that was also motorway driving but there were a lot of speed restrictions so it averaged 40mph.

I have done a brim to brim check for anyone who says the trip computer will be wrong after fitting the tuning box. It is as accurate as it was before it had been fitted.
