Rear diff leaking from cv shaft hole
Last week I had the heat shield rattle. While I was under there I noticed the diff was covered in oil. Checked it out this morning and found that it is leaking where the driver's rear cv shaft enters the diff. Anyone know if there is a seal or does his mean a new cv shaft?

Is it leaking from the output shaft (where the driveshaft goes into the differential) or the CV boot?
Either way, the axle has to come out, so you might as well change them both out(Reman cv shaft and the differential output seal).
Will save you some money and labor in the long run.

Doubt I'll change out the shaft...no need to change out something that isn't broken. It only saves time when you do it yourself and I do these projects with dad to spend time with him...we both enjoy it.
On a side note, I changed out the rear diff fluid at around 60k miles with Mobile1 75-90. The oil seeping out wasn't as clear as fresh stuff, but was far from blackened.

But, then that's the way I fix things.
