Default Rear diff leaking from cv shaft hole

Last week I had the heat shield rattle. While I was under there I noticed the diff was covered in oil. Checked it out this morning and found that it is leaking where the driver's rear cv shaft enters the diff. Anyone know if there is a seal or does his mean a new cv shaft?

Is it leaking from the output shaft (where the driveshaft goes into the differential) or the CV boot?

Either way, the axle has to come out, so you might as well change them both out(Reman cv shaft and the differential output seal).
Will save you some money and labor in the long run.

neither. After looking closer at the service manual, go to page 27b-27 or look at the attachment. Looks like number 32 is an oil seal. 2007 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER Axle Shaft Seal

Doubt I'll change out the shaft...no need to change out something that isn't broken. It only saves time when you do it yourself and I do these projects with dad to spend time with him...we both enjoy it.

On a side note, I changed out the rear diff fluid at around 60k miles with Mobile1 75-90. The oil seeping out wasn't as clear as fresh stuff, but was far from blackened.

Would this be covered under warranty if you were within 100k miles?

I bought used, so my warranty was only 60k miles. I would imagine it would be covered under warranty.

The reasoning about changing the hallf-shaft is that the current one has how many miles? Will you have to pull it to repair a torn/split boot? Go in once and do everything then you won't have to do it next year all over again.

But, then that's the way I fix things.
