Rear Jack Point - 05 Outlander LS AWD

Rear Jack Point - 05 Outlander LS AWD
So I'm performing the 1st oil change on our recently purchased 05 Outlander LS AWD to also include tire rotation.
When I go to jack up the rear at the central jack point, I find the center jack point is blocked by a metal "box" with square rubber insert attached (bolted) to the back of the rear differential.
What the heck is this piece and what purpose does it serve? Rear diff vibration damper?
I wound up running my floor jack up under the rear diff at its attachment point(s) and using that as the jack point.
Assuming other AWD Outlanders of this series are so equipped......what is suggested or what are you using as your rear central jack point?
