Default Rear View Camera Question

Hello All,

I have search the forum a bit and I couldn't find the answer to the following:

To install a rear view camera, do you need to have the navigation system of Mitsubishi the MMCS or can you just install a one with a monitor on the front.

Any help will be appreciated. Currently I don't have the MMCS and local dealer is asking for 2000+ + parts + tax, in other words, way to much.

Diego

You can install any system you want. Many kits around that have a stand alone monitor, or integrated in sun visor, or integrated into a replacement rear view mirror.

Pretty sure i've seen wireless systems that (if work) mean you don't need to run wiring from the camera to the monitor.

Thank you so much for the reply.
I was asking because I was analyzing how to put a rear view camera and whether I wanted a monitor on the side or go for a Nav system, either Mitsubishi or Kenwood.
I am evaluating Pros and Cons now.

Really boils down to what you want to spend. The MMCS or a major OEM brand Nav will be expensive. If you search the forum you'll find the cheaper Chinese systems but they come with their own issues.

I have the MMCS (it came in the car from the factory) but I wouldn't pay serious money to retro-fit one. It's simply not best in class despite one or two nice features.

I'd go for a rear view mirror integrated monitor for the reversing camera and use a stand alone Nav from Garmin, TomTom, etc.

Yeah I hear you. I looked at the MMCS just because it integrates with other features of the car such as BlueTooth and the USB things I don't want to loose if I change to a non mitsubishi one. Kenwood for instance has great features but renders the Bluetooth and USB of the car unusable. You have to use their brand. As you said to much money for something simple. I already own a Garmin GPS and I be happy with a simple camera. As far as Chinese stuff goes I am not even going there. I have read the forums and issues are non-stop.
I just cannot find simple quality and rather simple.

I installed a back up camera in the factory location on my 2007 XLS (no Nav.) and wired it to a "GPS" size lcd monitor located under the HVAC controls. I tried a wireless camera system as was very disappointed. A "wired" camera system is the way to go. The image is never interrupted by interference.
