mrdang,
I bought the ShurGripZ 339 from PepBoys, they said I can open it and try to fit it on the wheels. I can still return them if it doesn't fit as long as it hasn't been used. So I might give it a shot.

bino,
I think you should be ok w/ the SZ343. I think the problem w/ the SZ339 is that tire 225/55/18 is at the maximum size for the cable chain, and since there's slight variation between tire of the same size, some tire wouldn't fit. A bigger concern that I have in your case is whether you're going to have enough clearance for the chain at all. 235 is wider than the oem tire (225), so that makes the side clearance even less. The "y" gap in this picture: http://www.scc-chain.com/Traction%20...ear_chart.html.
I'm assuming you have Outlander as well, so you may not even have any clearance for the chain. You can try the super Z6 which suppose to have even less clearance.

joxong,

I emailed SCC and the tech told me that with the tire size I'm using I am safe in using the Super Z6 SZ143.... I'll order one and see if it would fit with no problems......

bino,
Report back once you find out. I'll be interested to know. I don't think you would have a fit problem w/ the Z6, the concern would be clearance issue.

I checked last night and it seems there won't be having any clearance issue... there is plenty of room for the Z6 to fit.. even for the Shur Grip model I don't think there will be clearance issue

I don't think clearance is an issue since our ride height is pretty tall - unlike sport cars where the tires are close to rubbing the fenders. Where you able to wrap around the entire tire with the chains? If so what model and product number did you use?

Default SoCal rider..my recommendation is to always carry chain.

Those 2 chains seems to be recommended on the Subaru Outback 2010 which also doesn't recommend using chains.
I just carry a set. I also a have an AWD Acura MDX but never really had the need to put the cables on. I just have the snow cable in case the CHP requires 'em. They usually check if you have 4wd, check your tires and ask if you carry chains during extreme(rare) condition. Then let you pass through. Most major routes are frequently cleared anyway.Since we do not have a long season of winter here I believe a set of good all-season tires is sufficient. I would not use those tires for winter if they have below 6/32 tread. I have the Eagle, 225 55 18 and it's time for replacement before December.
Unfortunately, the mitsubishi manual does not recommend any use of chains/cables. However, last season, on my 09 Outlander I was able to fit my Shurgrip SZ339 I had for my former Audi wagon with(summer tires!). They fit perfectly! Top clearance no problem. The only problem is that it only has about 1/2" inside clearance with the front brake line. So I am thinking of just having those brake hose relocated(if possible) if it's cost effective. I will find and post those pictures when I have the chance.

Where is your playground? I mainly go to Big Bear. Sometimes Mt. High, Alta Sierra or Mammoth.
