Default squealing coming from vent

Hey all,

My 2009 outlander seems to have a squealing noise coming from one of the front vents (passenger left). It only seems to happen on colder days and doesn't matter what speed the fan is. It is intermittent, but definitley happens when going over rough spots (like the jarring causes it to squeal).

Any thoughts? I have 99,000km so need to get this fixed soon before 100,000 lol

Thanks!

that's the area of the fan motor. behind the glove box, where you change the cabin air filter.

Sounds like the blower motor is dying.

have any of you encountered this before?

If the thing was dying, wouldn't it make that noise all the time (not just when very cold)?

And how come it definitely makes the noise going over a bump?

Thoughts?

THANKS!

I have a thread on my issue. It could be that it just started now n if left untreated would go on any the summer.

The blower motor sits vertically. The lower "bearing" is a mildly lubed cup on the frame and a pin on the winding's shaft. Eventually the lube dries up and the pin wears out the cup. With mine, bumps would get it going or certain fan speeds. Increasing or decreasing may get it to stop squealing. We rebuilt the motor and relubed the cup. It has been a while, but it will sqeal/squall when hitting a bump. Within the year I will replace it completely.

It did feel good to get one final jab in at that dealership (I still have the powertrain warranty though)

Thanks for the diagnosis!
