I have used the Mityvac to extract the power steering fluid from my GTO.

It only extracts what's in the reservoir. Some old fluid remains in the hoses and the PS pump.

But you do it a few times (extract, fill, drive a few days, extract, fill, drive a few days, repeat) and you will have mostly clean fluid in there.

Either yank the MPI or the EFI (multi point injection and electronic fuel injection) this will prevent the car from starting while you crank over the engine and get the fluid circulating.

Turn the wheel all the way left then all the way right when you're cranking. Then stop when the fluid coming out of the return looks like the fluid going in. Put the hoses back on correctly, fill the reservoir, replace the fuse, start the car, and turn the steering wheel all the way to both sides to bleed the system of any air. Do this a couple times.
Wait, you mean just cranking with the starter motor, without the engine starting?

Correct. Gives you more control over the power steering pump.

yep, service manual says to disconnect the fuel injectors (two large socket connectors under the engine cover on the 3.0), then crank the engine with the starter...doesn't take long.
