Default Transmission problems?

GF just got an 07 outty, shes loves it but it acts really weird. When you try tapping the gas it like revves up and then takes off really hard. Sometimes it will squeal the tires and it just doesnt shift smoothly at all. I have read there are some computer updates for it since its an early 07 model. Does anyone have experience with applying the updates? Does it correct the crazy shifting?

Default The Key

Most drive-by-wire systems have a degree of lag to quick changes in throttle position where the transmission has to shift a number of gears to get the acceleration you are requesting via your right foot. Especially as the gear numbers increase (6 speed in this case). If you are coasting along at 1300rpm in 6th gear and "stab" the throttle, the transmission needs to shift down 3 gears, which takes 1-2 seconds, then rev the engine up to 4000+ RPM, which can take up to 1/2 second, then you can go and the jerk is the torque being applied at higher HP/Torque levels.

A smooth transition in throttle works wonders in smoothing out this problem. You need to "learn" how to drive this engine/transmission combo. There is a TSB to reprogram the engine computer and transmission computer to help this, but it is still inherent in the drive-by-wire systems where the transmission will always shift to the highest possible gear to achieve the maximum fuel efficiency possible.

See here for more info on the TSB:

Yea we need to have the TSBs done as its an early 07 model. It has very high mileage, we think it was a rental car so its out of warranty and will cost $80 to have flashed....doh!
