Default What Engine Oil Do You Use In Britain?

Hi,
I was checking my engine oil level today and realised it needs a little top up.
Mitsubishi recommend 0W-30 that meets standards VW50501 or VW50601.
After spending an age looking on the internet, I have drawn a blank on finding an oil in the UK which as the correct viscosity and meets the standard. The best I can find is to VW50501 standard but the viscosity is 5W-30.To my understanding this means that the oil will be thicker at start up therefore more engine wear.
does anyone have a recommendation please???

Default sounds like german castrol syntec

You should be able to buy german made castrol syntec in a 0w30.

This picture is from 2004 but the new stuff should have the 50501 rating instead of 50500 rating.

Thanks for the info TCP.However I too had at first thought that Castrol Edge would fit the bill but this oil is rated vw505 00 not vw505 01 and after reading several sites like this http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=138982 I don`t want to risk the wrong stuff.

Default VW dealer

I'm sure you can get it at a VW dealer. I would recommend bringing a tube of KY as well. It'll stave off some pain.

I posted on oil for the VW TDI engine a while ago, have a look on the Opie Oils site (google it) - they list oils by VW standard codes (VW 505 01, etc.) and will mail oil to you.

Register on their site and they frequently run discount and delivery deals - so you can buy when its at a good price and keep a supply in the garage for top-up.

Hope this helps...

Shades
