Yup.

AMSOil, Redline, Brad Penn, Shell Rotella = Best

IMO, what works best is what is TESTED to work best not in general, but for your engine and driving style. I've tested Mobil1 and Pennzoil Platinum at 7500 miles and both performed well in my UOA reports. I use them interchangeably.

In every engine I've run Mobil 1 Synthetic, it will lose oil if you drive even enthusiastically.

I switched one engine to Valvoline VR1, and it never lost another drop of oil. I switched another car to Castrol and it also never lost another drop. I switched my personal car to Castrol Syntec, then AMSOil and also never lost a drop.

I have always liked Mobil 1, but I have since changed my opinion.

I watched a video on you tube done by a professional mechanic. He did a side by side comparison of all major brands including $18/quarter variety to have the best content/additives comparison of digital zoomed images, which cost him a good amount of money to get the data. The abrasions marks left on cylinder walls was about 8-10 times smaller than the rest, using a Royal Purple.

Default Hmm

Do you have a link for this video? Did he test AMSOIL 100% Synthetic? AMSOIL beats Royal Purple

I’m using Mobil 1 high mileage 0-20 and Mitsubishi filter, only $8.99 a filter. Mobil 1 at Walmart is cheap too.

Previously I used some more expensive brands like Castrol LongLife, but... now I am using ANY cheap oil of the type 5W-30 for my diesel 4N14 2.2L engine (winter and summer). The only 2 important things are:
  1. I'm changing oil twice more often than advised in the service book.
  2. when changing, I am flushing the engine with cheaper oil and run engine for a few minutes, then replacing the filter and putting more expensive oil. There is a lot black/soot particles coming out after the flush.
I believe, that all modern oils are more less the same with +/- additives, and the LongLife is another level of religion though not for me :-) instead, I am changing and flushing more.
