Hi. Does anyone know what this might be? We have just bought a my08 cvt (auto) outlander and this happens occasionally. It is fairly shrill and seems to be linked to the transmission. Any ideas/thoughts? thanks

 

Do you have the Yokohama Geolander tires? I have an 08 with the Yokohama Geolanders and on certain road surfaces I get a noise from them that sounds like a whine.

 

Had heard that one about tyres but pretty sure they're not the problem. Just back from being out for drive and no whine. Have bought a dvd dual screen set-up for the kids on those long trips and, having taken it down, wondering if that might have had an effect?

 

mine whines when i start it for a few minutes at times. brought it to the dealer. they recommended that i let it warm up before driving it. go figure. it may be the fuel pump. they may just use one that whines loudly until it warms up.

 

casr, you should try to put the dvd dual screen setup back in. see if the whine comes back. if it does, put your car in park and just rev the engine. if you hear it, then you are probably hearing "alternator whine" which generally means a bad ground.

 

thanks for the tips. don't get a chance to drive it during the week - mum's taxi . I'll try the dvd set up again this weekend.
