That's nothing, my dealer wants me to be on the severe schedule in Vancouver (where it barely gets to freezing over the winter) every 3 months with about 1,000 km that I put on during those 3 months. Then he started saying it would void my warranty if I didn't, so I brought him the warranty book and shut him up that way. It clearly states under what conditions should you do the severe one.

Dealer shops are out to suck your blood if you let them.

Mitsubishi (as posted on my dealership service dept.) has a new oil change schedule for 2011 vehicles. It's 5 months/8000 km whichever comes first.

No. We use the original maintenance schedule. Using synthetic oil is a different story.

8000Km is 5000 miles... If you use synthetic...that schedule will work just fine and will do no harm.

6k miles will be absolutely fine on a fully synthetic oil - you can even leave it longer than that. I am from the UK although currently live in USA. I have been very surprised by the obsession with oil changes in the USA. In the UK, most vehicles require an oil change every 12k miles (not km). Our UK cars do not fall to bits as a result of this. However, saying that, I have always tend to be a bit overcautious and change mine every 6k miles using a good quality semisynthetic when in the UK. I use Mobil1 as it is so cheap here (4 litres of mobil1 is about $25 in Walmart, it would cost you nearer $60-70 in UK).
There are loads of websites debating oil change frequencies in USA vs Europe. Changing it more frequently will never do harm, but 3k miles - that is just ridiculous and wasteful for most drivers.

Hi,

I bought a new 2010 outlander in Israel a couple months ago, and was surprised when the dealer told me the scheduled maintenance is 20000Km/1year even for the first visit. After a few checks, it turns out its because they are using synthetic oil.

Thanks

That schedule is very normal for UK (and probably rest of Europe). The last 10 cars I have owned have all had manufacturer recommended oil change intervals of between 9000 and 12000 miles.
