Default 2001 Mitsubishi Montero XLS

Hello my name is Angel I'm a single mother with 3 girls. I was surprised to hear about this club for Mitsubishi models. I am a proud owner of a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero XLS V6 3.5L engine 4WD. I purchased it used with 43k miles at an Auction in May of 2005 I could not decide between a 2002 Land Rover and the 2001 Mitsubishi Montero XLS. I know I made a good choice by purchasing the Montero. After 14 years my Montero finally broke down but never left me stranded on the road. almost 2 years ago at 269k miles the catalytic converter gave out and it also needs the engine gasket or so I was told. Out of all the vehicles I've driven and owned the Montero has been my best choice. I did my best to keep up with the maintenance but everything has its limits. I would hate to loose my SUV the engine still has power. I was told about the Mitsubishi Forum club 2 weeks ago so I'm reaching out hopping to get help in fixing my SUV. I am located in the San Bernardino County and every mechanic I've visited is not familiar or has never worked on the Mitsubishi Montero, is there any way the Mitsubishi Forum club can help me?

Hi Angel I also have a Montero exactly like yours. You didn't mention exactly what was wrong with yours. A couple of months ago I had the crankshaft pully come off when driving it home. It seems to be a common problem with that engine. Even though I do most of my own work on my cars and could have fixed it myself, I live in an area where you cannot work on your car in the street or driveway. I do have a 3 car garage, but I also have 5 cars and could not make room for it. I needed to find someone to do it for me as I didn't have the room. Turns out there is a mechanic here who knows and works on them. As I knew what was wrong and what was needed to fix it, I purchased the parts and had him replace them. I live in Indio which is in the Palm Springs area. It's a bit of a drive, but he is really good and affordable. He only charged me $200 for the labor. You didn't mention if it is still drivable. The guys name is Danial at Holsters Automotive. 760-578-9197
