Engine failure on Outlander 2020
2020 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER
VIN: JA4AZ2A35LZ614986
On November 10, 2023, in the morning, I was driving my vehicle home. Suddenly, I noticed that the dashboard was indicating that the engine was overheating. As I was on the phone with my husband at the time, I informed him and he advised me to stop immediately. I pulled off to the side of the road on the Limoge exit and turned off the engine. My husband called Mitsubishi Service to come and tow the car to the Mitsubishi Bank Street garage in Ottawa.
After almost a week, on the afternoon of November 16, 2023, Mr Matthew Kenny, service manager, called my husband to inform us that the engine had exploded and that he needed more information to support the application for the new engine at Mitsubishi, as he had found a hole that appeared to be caused by a shock. We provided him with the information on what had happened, as described in the first paragraph. He then requested that this information be sent to him by e-mail, and this was done. We explained to Mr. Matthew that there was no physical damage to the vehicle before it was towed, and that if there was, it must have happened between the time it was towed and the time his garage took control of the vehicle.
To my great surprise, I received Mr. Matthew's e-mail that Mitsubishi is refusing to cover the cost of the engine with the explanation below:
Mitsubishi will not allow the engine or radiator to be replaced under the warranty. With the information provided this would need to be claimed with your insurance company.
Currently we see a small hole in the radiator and with the information provided the loss of coolant resulted in the engine overheating and damaging the engine. The cause of the loss is an impact to the radiator causing a hole and then the loss of engine coolant. Warranty does not cover impact related damage.
