Default Oil change and tune-up questions on Outlander

Hi all,

First post, or at least first in a long time since I already had an account but can't remember last time I was here :-)

Anyway, just brought my 2011 Outlander to the dealer here in NJ for an oil change, and had a few questions. It has just about 17k miles on it now. I have a moderate knowledge of basic engine operations. Probably a little more than most.

They are trying to charge me $309 for a 15k mile tune-up, which involves this Protex maintenance service kit, which they say is some type of coating that's applied to the crankcase that supposedly makes it run more smoothly or last longer. It also involves "inspecting" a bunch of things like tires, cabin filter, brakes, etc, as well as replacing the plugs and air filter. I've recently already changed the air filter on my own.

Is it necessary or just a sales gimmick?

They also tried to get me to purchase a fuel injector cleaning service for another $200 or so. They said it helps to clean up any carbon build-up on the injectors, which I thought was weird, since I didn't understand how the injectors would get carbon on them from the exhaust.

They also said that the oil change needed to be done every 3k miles, but I thought the synthetic oil lasts longer than that?

Thanks for any ideas,
Dave

Is there no one that can help?

Did I post in the wrong forum?

Thanks,
Dave

the oil change should be done at least every 5000 miles.you shouldnt have to touch the spark plugs until 100,000 miles.remeber to always check your owners manual.
