you can get an SR20 for about 2 grand and have a 250hp car for 2900 bucks. and it doesn't take much to make them fast either.

 

i got a question on the whole six speed topic here.. Sorry if its a dumb question but i was wonder this... Would it be possible to get a six speed, and have the first 5 gears exactly the same size/ratio whatever as a 5 speed, then have the 6th gear the so called (200 mph gear)?

a custom geared out tranny yea maybe but in most all cases esspecially now a days they are not. The 6th gear in the Evo sits at teh same RPM as 5th gear in the 5spds maybe a 100 or 200 lower that is all. the high end cars like I said before all do it the opposite way where they are highway geared cars not autox track cars... and that is why the gearing in teh Evo and STi is the way it is

 

i always pondered abt doin an auto to manual trns swap.....i know i need to add a pedal and a line.....but what lse? buy a different engine to accommodate the manual trans? i herd one person did it and it gives them problems

 

having a gear that is that tall would be pointless unless you have a **** load of power behind the wheels. if it was geared that tall on a stock or even lightly modded gst/x then you would never reach 200 anyways just because of the fact that it takes so much torque to overcome the air resistance when you start getting up into those speeds

 

It's not as pointless as you think...

 

technically it is.. where are you going to go, unless you have a **** ton of power, where you would actually get to use that gear?? the sand flats maybe lol

 

if you live neqr the sand flats....autobahn in germany my cousin use gear 6

 

read the rest of my post.. if you dont have a heavily modded car your 6th gear is not gonna have enough tq to get past the wind resistance at that speed
