Syncros stop the gear from moving so when its engaged it does not grind. When they are toast... you get grinding and you have to shift oldschool. Rev match.

 

Usually when i hear powershifting i think of having it at WOT and pulling on the gear and as soon as you touch the clutch it pops in.

 

Thats pretty much what i said. Keeping your foot on the gas and mashing the clutch.

 

flat shifting??? i can take my car in and out of gear without pressing the clutch.. is this it, i mean there is no grinding, it just slides in, and my foot is off the gas

 

Try doing it at redline... when your in like third or something... at redline... take it out of third and put it into 4th without removing your foot off the gas.. and without touching the clutch.. that takes skillz

 

when racing i have always powershifted, i didn't think it would be that big of a deal. as for flat shifting i wsa just drivin around one day and found out that i could in my Eclipse a while back. but i never thought it was good for the car so i never did it on a regular basis.

 

what does it do....give you less decelersating time and more accelerating time with extra boost? i drive an auto never a manual so im a noob at this....

 

well you can't do it in an auto. but in a stick basically powershifting is basicaly when you change gears at a high rpm w/o taking ur foot off the accelerator, that way when you release the clutch you are still at full throttle and pulling just as hard.
