I have a question. Should I buy a 1999 Mitsubishi Montero Sport XLS 2WD with 128,000 that looks in good shape? $5,500. How long do they usually last?

What is your current vehicle if you're driving one? What are you looking for out of the Montero? If it has the 3.0 V6 be weary... they are bad on gas and underpowered. You will get V8 gas mileage and 4 cylinder performance. This is a consistent complaint with the Montero's and Montero Sport- from the reviews I read. I thought of buying one a few months ago, but a 2002-2004 3.5 V6 but decided against it. If you are looking for a "true" SUV, you will get it. It is based on a truck frame, so it's pretty stiff, but the ride suffers greatly. If you want a family hauler, you may want to look elsewhere. Being that it's a 2WD, you're not looking for a tough off roader... you might want to evaluate what you are looking for in a vehicle first. If you want something in the late 90's range, I've heard pretty good things about the Isuzu Trooper, though still not that good on gas. Not a "slalom friendly" SUV either. Insurance may be slightly elevated due to parts cost, but offers good ride and price.
