Montero Sport XLS 2002. About 80K miles. Service Engine Soon code 455 came on. According to my Innova code checker, this is Gross EVAP Leak. After resetting, it comes back at about 30 miles. I smell gas around the fuel filler area. There is an obvious leak but not enough to show drops under vehicle. I took it to my friendly service place. They couldn't find the problem. I tried replacing gas cap.
Anyone have any suggestions?

 

I would see if your shop has a smoke machine. If they do, they should be able to tap into the EVAP system and find the leak simply by looking for where the smoke comes from. Its what I normally do when I get an EVAP leak code come into mine, its also what I did when I worked for Chrysler too. Of course you could also crawl under the vehicle and look for anything obvious, like a busted hose.
