hes right, you probably wont even notice it. I wasnt trying to shy you away from doing it. IMO its totally worth doing to not have to worry about it ruining your timing belt if it goes.

why cant you just take the belt off the shaft and leave it in there? Would it hit the crank?

The front shaft you can leave alone the other runs off the oil pump and would make the car shake like hell.
