gas mileage expectations
I recently bought a 1990 Eclipse GS with the 2.0 non turbo and an uto tranny, what kind of mileage should I expect to get with this car? It's main use is as a daily driver in my 42 mile round trip to work each day. As far as I can tell, the car is bone stock except for aftermarket rims. I imagine a good tune up will improve it, but is there anything else I could do to help improve it?

RE: gas mileage expectations
K&N air filter tends to help the 420a gas mileage a little bit, and adds some power. Reaplace the o2 sensor if its over 60k miles. I would guess 20-25 MPG average from one of those in town driving, ive seen them get up to 40+ on the highway. Stick with regular old champion spark plugs, the fancy ones make them run like ****.

Well, the car has just over 93,000 so I can assume that the O2 sensor has never been changed. Iwas toldthe timing belt has been replaced. I'm planning to do a general tune-up, plugs, wires, etc. Right now I'm guessing maybe 14-15 mpg, I can't say for sure because I've only had it for 5 days now and haven't had to fill it up yet. I think a K & N filter will be on the list as well, I've got one on my truck and I'm impressed with it.

Oh yea i forgot you had an auto trans, in town you wont get all that great of mileage unless you really keep your foot out of it and grandma drive it.Either way new plugs & stuff always help. Maybe run a bottle of lucas injector cleaner through it and then change the fuel filter if it hasnt been changed already.

I have tried this on ym 99 gst and I got 2 mpg better after I did it. take out your o2 sensors and down at daiscount auto they have a can of electronics cleaner that dries on it's own. It's called CRC® QD Electronic Cleaner (05102). you spray it on the end of the sensor and w/ a clean rag and a soft brush like an old tooth brush you clean the sensor. This stuff works on all you connections. I found that most of the time a poor connection is what causes you sensors to malfunction.

just do a simple tune up like you were saying and go from there, do the injector/fuel system cleaner, also agree with he fuel filter, after that... not a whole lot you can do.
