Default Really needing opinions soon on buying this car!

Well it's time for me to get my second car.. my first was a taurus that is now.. well.. done for.. I just don't want to throw any more money into a slug sedan that I don't need..

I'm selling/trading my yamaha Banshee (sport fourwheeler) to get a car and a guy near where I live is wanting to trade (given my fourwheeler is worth 1500-1800)

the car 1992 Eclipse Gs non turbo 2.0 16 valve DOHC motor auto trans. (with 2 different settings on the trans.. idk anything about that? something about 1 for performance and one for gas milage basically but idk)

he said if you let the car sit for about a month is smokes when started (any input on this.. and I wouldn't even have it sitting for a month it would be a daily driver) he said the oil pressure goes up and down but said he took it to a shop and they said it was a common problem... (now i figure you guys will know what is REALLY up with that..) said it runs and drives fine it had newer tires on it and good brakes on it. and he said it doesn't have the original dash and the former owner didn't switch the vins but he had it ran and it didnt come back as stolen and that his title matches the rest of the car.

so what do you guys think? it has 136k miles on it.. he sent me pics of just about everything possible and it looks really decent besides the hood is all faded and peeling.. interior looks nice too. oh it also has a crack in the window.. and he lost the head panel to the cd player that was in it but said he'd swap it out for a different cd player.. (which isnt that big of a deal but heck it beats no radio doesn't it?) I have a alpine in the taurus but i mean if it's something extra i get then I'll take it..

he wants to meet not this coming up weekend but the weekend after for me to check out the car (i had mentioned i wasnt sure if i would be able to bring the fourwheeler yet but he still seems willing to drive the hour 1/2 way so i can see the car)

Make sure that the timing belt is done, the car is probably worth 1200 at the most imo. Do you have any pics?

personally i would run the VIN myself. shouldnt cost you much. if anything at all. what we do here is just run into a police station and ask the front desk if they can run it for you to check it for stolen and or lien.

Well I asked him about it and in fact the title matches everything else it's just different on the dash (so no big deal)

Yes I do have pics of just about everything on the car.. I talked more with the guy he wants to meet up so I can check it out (he's almost 2 hours from me and is willing to drive 1/2 way which is a place i often go to anyways) So I do plan on doing that.

here are a few pics oh and the tires do look good they have lots of tread (got a pic on that but not gonna post it)

He said some exauhst work has just been done on it.. that header is looking pretty rusty but If i get I plan on getting an aftermarket header for it anyways since I seen them for a low as $110

but in all honestly for pistons, rings, gaskets, bearings, oil pump, water pump, full timing belt kit, and random hardware to it.. it is only $375 for all that in a package... I know cost of labor would be high but heck I could rip into it myself with a couple friends if need be (one friend is a mechanics son and has grown up doing this stuff and another friend is in auto college right now) with it being a 92 I assume it's not as crazy electronical dependent as modern cars is it? (easier to work on without having to use all kinds of machines)
