wierd rattle
that sux man, but that wouldnt **** me off as much as this, because i did NOTHING to cause this, i JUST replaced the clutch in this car then on the first start it just out of no where started acting up..
honestly i couldnt tell you what that is but you said metal rattling or clanking together so i could assume a connecting rod but dont take my word on that because i havent worked with enough imports to know that..
In reply to the ticking in your head its your VALVE LASH ADJUSTERS.. They click clack when theres no oil on them thats why it stops when it warms up. IF they start ticking after its warmed up then replace im sometimes they get cracked (and thats not good)
no mine was not constant, it was only revving at about 2500 or higher and when i let off the gas but didnt hit clutch, just let it slow down, thats when it rattled horrible...
If it sounds like metal on metal in mid to bottom of block, be VERY carefull, i wouldnt drive it if it sounds like what i said because it is probably a main or a rod bearing... thats what mine was is a rod bearing... well, multiple rod bearings lol..

no mine didnt do it at all when it was idling, but maybe now that you said it sounds like whining, you might have your timing belt or one of your other belts too tight... or does it sound like INSIDE the engine, or is it on the side?
