2G potential as far as stright out drag racing they have the strong 4g63 motor that can handle a lot of boost on stock internals and they come turbocharged from factory would be less to upgrade to get the times you want also the car is cheeper.

3G come N/A on all models so a exspensive quality turbokit is required 6G72 SOHC 24v is about $4 924.00 from tearstone.com which is "from what i hear" the best fo the best when it comes to 3G turbo kits & 4G64 Pro Turbo Kit $4 624.00. now i have been told these cars were boosted 17psi with no know issues when done right.

My opinion I personaly like the 2G better but i would do more web research on times of the 2 generations price how hard it is to intall a full turbo kit if you can do it or cost of somone else. many differant caftors to look at.

as far as which is better thats all opinion, but since your question is which one is faster, thats a 2g by a long shot. considering the fastest 2g's are in the low 8's and one has even hit 7's, thats prety quick. i dont kno about the fastest 3g's but id guess somewhere around 11's or 10's

hmmm I dont think so... stock for stock the GT eclipse should be faster than a GSt. If we are talking turbo models and turbo upgraded then the 2G is the way to go. I have had 2 3Gs and I know they are not fast cars and the 2G can be faster alot easier and cheaper than a 3G can

The 2nd G's have gotta be faster..The 4G63 is such a strong motor and has tons of potential for a much less cost..I love my '99 GS-T.

this is a loaded question. is he talking about souped up on the stock motor? rebuilt motor?

stock motor, then its the 2G by far.

rebuilt motor, then theres no real answer. even though the 2G does have faster 1/4 mile times, the potential of the 3G hasn't been reached. we are just starting to break the surface with this car.

and the fastest recorded 3G ran a 11.8 in the 1/4 mile. that was running about 420whp on the V6 with just the pistons replaced.
