ORIGINAL: ictponder

I don't see a MAS on that one. Is that only half of it or is it just a different type of CAI?
if it is a 420a then there is no MAS it reads MAP sensors or something

They call it a cold air intake but all it really is, is a short ram because it stays in the engine bay. It goes right to where the stock air box is. and i guess emonz is right. there is no MAS. Because here is a pic of a 420a with a CAI. The one that they show their will basically end right where this one starts to dip down.

I didn't actually look at the pic of the other one but now that I have yeah it's definately not a CAI. CAI will be where COLD air is and nowhere NEAR the engine itself...

What would be the performance difference between a short ram and CAI? I know the colder the air is the more energy density it has but is there any other advantage to a CAI?

The only true CAI I found on that website it this one from a brand that I have never heard of:

#21695

If I got this I would also need a bypass valve right?

Not only is there the density but also the temp alone colder air will cool things down a little as well. IMHO a short ram doesn't really work unless placed somewhere where you will actually be ramming air in. Stil the ram air in the grill and I sure BET there would be a gain but I believe the ONLY reason you see a performance gain on a short ram is because you've eliminated all the twists and turns the factory puts in and allowed the engine to suck air easier. It it were a true ram intake it would be semi visible at least. I mean think about it. You have the filter basically right next to the block. Any air that is there is slowed down and deflected my the bumper and hood. Therefore there REALLY is no RAM to the intake there.
