Sister has a 2000 Eclipse 2.4L GS.</P>


As she's travelling down, its ok. But as soon as she comes to a stop, the tach drops below idle then the whole car dies out.</P>


My dad has replaced the battery just for the hell of it. But the problem persists. Any suggestionswould help. BTW, did a search and so far nothing. Thanks in advance.</P>

 

i have a 99 gs and mine did summin like that when i was goin it was fine then i stopped and it cut out it was the bolt on the alternator groundin the car out and i jus needed the spacers on it</P>

hmm... I'll go check that out tomorrow, hopefully thats all it is. But isn't that kind of wierd for my sister's car to start doin that after 58k miles (3 yrs).

 

the battery wouldnt cause the problem, hell you could disconnect your negative terminal if your car was running and it would still run, it could be a Bad EGR, or a Bad Vacuum leak, how does the car accelerate??? if it accelerates poorly it could be a burnt catalytic converter or something kinked in the exhaust system. peace

 

I had a similar problem with a Toyota I had, years ago... a friend adjusted the idle speed, and it solved the problem.
