Car start problem
Well my friend has a all stock 98 gst spyder. Has under 60k miles on. He had it idling and all of a sudden he heard snap and a woosh sound and his car turned off. It would crank but not start now. Took a look at his belt and one of them the side walls was pretty ripped up, but still holding together. Any suggestion what might cause this or why his car isn't starting.
sounds like it could be a timing slip... and maybe looking at a head rebuild. If its the timing belt the valves hitting the pistons might have been part of that sound and bent valves will cause you to crank over but not start because you cant hold compression
which belt are you saying is worn because like emonz said, the one you need to check is the timing belt which is covered by the plastic peice. I agree with emonz with this being the timing belt
well its not the belt that runs the cam gears .. but if u look from the driver side fender and align urself to where the end of the intake manifold is and just peek down, its that belt that looks torned up.
