i don't know much about cars...ok...i have a 98 Eclipse RS manual and lately it idles pretty bad and when i get up to a certain speed it acts like it doesn't want to go so i have to let off the gas and then it quits. It also smells pretty bad like its on fire, i had the spark plugs/wires changed so any other suggestions? I miss my car and i can't find anyone else to look at it.

 

do you notice any smoke coming from the engine bay or out of the exhaust? or any check engine light?

 

no smoke...that's what i don't understand because it smells like it but i can't see any smoke coming from anywhere and yes my engine light is on.

 

I dont know about the bad smell, but the bad performance could be a fuel filter or a oxygen sensor. go get the check engine light read. thats going to help you figure it out, or outright tell you whats wrong.

 

sounds maybe like an electrical problem. have the coil/distributer looked at. Just a thought.

a couple other things to check is your coolant, see how much you have or if it looses any. Also check you spark plugs again and see if they are black.
