hold on let me get this right you are willing to pay im going to guess about $75-100 to get it installed but wont spend a max of $50 to DIY. If you dont want to spend money the cheepest way it to do it yourself. Im just giving suggestions to save the money of paying a shop 50-70 and hour to put a pipe that ould take a hour max with a tourchm maby 2 if u need to replace the cat.

 

I know, I'm an idiot.. I'll try to do it myself.. and I'll thank everyone here... again... lol

Ok guys, quick question.. I have a couple days before I attempt to remove my stock exhaust so I'm not rushed for the answer, but when I was taking another glance at it (the stock exhaust) I noticed that the pipe was sitting inside some sort of metal "jacket" .. which was on the hangers as well as bolted to the body of the car...

I'm not sure if this is just on my year model or on all 2G eclipses, but I was wondering if I'm going to have to keep that and put my new exhaust IN it, or just remove the whole thing and hang her up.

this is a heat dissapating device attached to teh stock exhaust you can remove it but i would leave the part that is on the body of the car on.

 

Well I'm asking if I need to, have to, or does it really matter... Because it'd make the process a heck of a lot easier if I could just rip the stock stuff off and not have to worry about leaving some of it and meanuvering the new pipes in with it... I mean, the pipes are slightly bigger I believe.

 

It's a heat shield. The bottom part is basically useless but the part on the car side I would keep.

 

top part is mad so your floorboards dont heatup. by removing which you can all it will do is make the floor hot. Have seen issues with this on other cars as in the carpet melting to the floor.

 

oh, also.. I think someone told me on this thread, or some other thread... but someone said that the cat has studs made onto it.. and if I break the studs I'll have to get a new cat...

Are there bolts or studs on the cat/center pipe connection?

Carpet melting on the floor huh? .. I guess I can always keep the top.. it'll be easier to keep the top than the bottom.. in my opinion.

 

If the studs ARE welded into the cat you can always drill them out if you break one. Then tacck weld a new one in.
