Default Lost of eletrical power

Recently my cars been dying a lot with no eletrical power at all. At first I thought it was just a bad alternator, so my dad and i took it out and brought it in to get tested at AutoZone. Turns out the alternator is good. So we brought the battery in. Battery was completely dead, but after they recharged it, the test was positive. So I thought that everything was ok. Drove it for two days and left it untouched for four. Dead. Completely out again. I had a friend try to help me jump start it, but there was no electrical power at all in my car when the cables were connected. Then I notice my alternator was starting to smoke and thats when we notice that the cable had caught on fire from my friends end. Luckily we unplugged it quick enough and everything was ok cept for the calbe which had completely melted on the positive end. Any idea what's wrong? Only thing I can think of now is that perhaps there is a bad or faulty wire somewhere. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

could also be that something is shorting out. But yes i would assume a bad wire somewhere as well. Also could be a bad sensor/relay. But im not to good with this type of issue (wiring)

Have you checked the fusible link for the alternator? When my alternator went it blew the fusible link. I replaced the alternator and fuse and everything has been good.
