Disconnecting the battery will erase any OBDII monitors that you may have already completed! I suggest you just drive within the parameters mentioned in my previous post- and then take it to the Smog Check center WITHOUT shutting off the engine. Early OBDII models actually ERASED any monitors that were previously completed once the ignition was shut off. I don't remember if yours is one of them.

Thank you Joel you have been a great help. I went to smog check shop before i dissconected the battery and he told me that my O2 sensor is ready and all i need is one more thing to be ready and i will pass the OBDII test. I will try they EGR meathod that u have mentioned and if u have any additional information please let me know...once again thanks very much.

 

one question "For example- for the EGR readiness monitor to run, you may need to be between 35-40 mph for 30 seconds followed by closed throttle decelleration down to 5mph. Any other driving such as constant freeway runs will never allow the ECU to run it's self test." can u explain me that again please.

 

Take your foot off of the accellerator and let it coast to approx 5 mph WITHOUT using the brakes. This may **** off a few people behind you so just try to do it in a wide open boulevard where people can just go around you. Good LUck!

Ok i drove the car accroding to Joel..and now the EGR is ready. now i have the O2 and EGR ready and only need one more readiness one was CAT the other was O2 heater(or something along those lines) and cant remember the last one. The smog test place told me to keep on driving until one more test is ready. Once again thanks very much!!!

 

All you need is 2 monitors to be completed for the OBDII functional test to pass. You're good to go.

I went back to the smog shop and now I have 2 things working (EGR and O2), the guy said i need 1 more thing to register in my OBDII test out of CAYT, O2 HEATER or CAT SOMETHING, which doesnt seem to be ready. He told me that it could be a faulty computer. Does anyone have any idea how much does the computer for the 1996 eclipse rs goes for? Is there a shop in Los Angeles area where I can get one. Also when i drive the car and am stuck in traffic i notice there is smoke comes for the exaust. Any idea why is that. once again any opinion would be great. thanks again

 

what color smoke, could be a head gasket
