Default shifter movement

ok well i know my car is 10 years old and things wear...thats life. but my shifter in gear has what i think is way to much side to side motion, is that normal is that just a 2g thing or is a bushing worn out somewhere that needs to be fixed? it doesnt effect the car in gear or anything it drives fine, its just one of those anoying things.

I *think* this is a common problem with the dsm's involving the shift forks.

Mine had it too. My issue was the rubber bushing on the shift cables, on the tranny side, and the shifter's pivot point...the spring has toooooo much gap between it and the shaft that it sits on. There are kits out there that include a cylinder that slides over the shaft that the spring sits on and takes up the gap. The key is removing as much gap as possible and the worn, cracked, shrunk rubber bushings on the shifter cable..tranny end.

It's called a shift kit. EPSI has them and some others too.

Click the pic for the link and notice that long cylinder in the pic? That's what I was talking about.
If you want to make the shifter have even less movement, add on the shifter bearings..
